    Barley Cove is a large, sweeping beach at the south-western tip of the Mizen Peninsula and one of the most scenic surf fishing venues in the south-west of Ireland. The season runs from June through December, matching the broader window of the Mizen coast. Flounder are the most reliable species throughout this period, taken on lugworm or ragworm fished on a standard paternoster through the surf on the flooding tide and at high water; bass visit the beach on the flood with peeler crab and worm offering the best chances — anglers should check current bass regulations with IFI before keeping any bass. After dark, dogfish move into the surf on mackerel strip presented on the bottom, and can provide steady sport through the summer night sessions.

    Nearby Crookhaven village, a short drive around the headland, complements the beach with harbour and rock fishing options including conger, bull huss, pollack, and wrasse — making the Barley Cove area an excellent base for a day or weekend covering several very different types of fishing. The beach itself is easily accessible with a large car park, making it one of the more straightforward venues on the Mizen Peninsula for visiting anglers. Despite its accessibility, the Atlantic exposure means surf and swell can build quickly; always fish with awareness of the conditions and keep clear of heavy breaking surf.
